NO NEED TO WORRY! Many parents and/or students new to Spicewood feel anxious about jumping into Spanish class after never having had Spanish before. Relax! It is going to be fine. Here is why:
- Students are graded based on their participation and effort. As long as they are actively engaged in the lesson and trying, they will be fine.
- Spanish at Spicewood is taught, for the most part, through a method called TPRS, which stands for Total Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling. Learning is accomplished through compelling and comprehensible input. In short, your student will quickly acclimate and catch up to their peers. Here are a couple of websites to explore if you would like to know more about TPRS.
- Although I can't give you an exact list of words or phrases for them to study and memorize, you can always look at the page called What is my child learning? to see what other grade levels are learning. Soon there will be links to study tools for them to practice at home what they have been learning at school. These are valuable activities to help speed the process of increasing their confidence and comfort level in class.
